Day 23: Fredericksburg, VA – Winchester, VA

 

Good morning everyone,

The only difference: the wind came from the front today and it wasn’t without its peaks (peaks up to 50kmh). After about a third of the route you could see the Appalachian Mountains in the distance for the first time and the profile of the route changed – the short waves became longer ramps that made me and the bike sweat in equal measure.

After crossing the Shenandoah River you could easily have been in the Bavarian Forest if it hadn’t been for the trucks with the long snouts that rushed past you at 120kmh. Shortly before the hotel we went through Winchester, an old little town with an English touch and lots of tiny little houses. After almost 130km I was happy today that I didn’t have to drive any further…
