Day 1: Today is the big day
Today is the big day, the start of our grand tour.
We bid farewell to the hotel manager, who was very kind and accommodating, holding onto some items for us until our return.
Under a sky of radiant blue, we set off towards the north on US1.
We pass by Fort Lauderdale Airport with its perpetual bustle, the town of Fort Lauderdale itself, riding close to the sea past Pompano Beach and Boca Raton, where we take our first break.
It’s scorching hot today, around 34 degrees Celsius. Everything still feels a bit unfamiliar – the heavy bikes, the wind, and the overall exertion.
We opt not to take the road closest to the sea, instead sticking to US1, which boasts a wonderfully wide bike lane, making for a relatively relaxed ride.
After Boynton Beach, our destination is soon in sight, and we look forward to our room.
After 79 kilometers, today’s journey comes to an end. Our two Aventon Level 2 bicycles have performed admirably, and now they too can rest until tomorrow’s leg of the journey.
