Day 32: Tiffin, Oh nach Fort Wayne, IN (6.6.24)
Good morning from Ohio, after the very wet ride yesterday I had a hard time getting my clothes dry, which I managed fairly well except for my shoes. The route to Fort Wayne was a bit longer today and since it was supposed to be mostly flat, I was hoping for quick progress. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all. Headwind right from the start and at its finest. It came directly from my direction and grew stronger as the day went on. Tufts of straw rolled across the street and branches came flying. Despite the strongest support level, I was only able to make progress at 15kmh in places and the charge level of my batteries dropped dangerously quickly, so that I was forced to recharge them several times. As I was taking a break, a farmer came up to me and said that he saw me driving past half an hour ago and he felt sorry for me. He said I should drive in the other direction, it wouldn’t be so tiring. And if not, then watch out for the Thunderstorms, they would come out of nowhere. Yes, I had that experience yesterday too. In any case, it was a real battle with the wind (40kmh with 60kmh gusts) and after almost 8 hours I finally arrived in Fort Wayne.
